How to prepare your car for the Swiss MFK inspection
The MFK assesses vehicle condition and compliance. Preparation can prevent avoidable faults, but neither CarFix nor a pre-inspection can guarantee the authority's result.

Read the appointment notice
Check the date, location, required documents and any canton- or vehicle-specific instructions. The official notice takes priority over any general checklist.
Checks that require no dismantling
With the vehicle safely parked, check visible lights, wipers, washer fluid, mirrors, plates, visibility and unsecured objects. Also inspect the apparent tyre condition and pressure according to the manufacturer guidance.
Do not clear or hide a warning to conceal a fault. A critical warning, leak, unusual noise or braking problem needs professional assessment before further driving.
What a pre-inspection can add
A garage can assess items that are difficult to judge without equipment, such as braking, play, headlamp aim, emissions or the underside. Ask what the pre-inspection covers and how any repairs will be authorized.
On inspection day
Present an accessible vehicle that is sufficiently clean for inspection and bring the requested documents. Allow reasonable time and follow the inspection centre's instructions.

- Appointment notice and required documents.
- Lights, visibility, wipers and washer system.
- Tyres in sound apparent condition and at suitable pressure.
- Repair any known safety fault before the appointment.
